Rapidfire Shifter doesn't return

Dirt in lever body - Juice it with WD40 real good. Sticky derailleur cablle - lube or replace Worn
guide pulley on RD - replace

If it's not shifting to the smaller cogs, it's likely a sticky cable -- probably the last loop going
into the rear derailer. Lube the cable. If it doesn't get things working perfectly, replace that
piece of housing. It tends to fill up with dirt over time. Flushing it with WD40 before relubing
might help too.

...in my experience: the arm carrying the smaller button has bent and is making it hang up on the
larger button - or on the grip, or on the brake lever. Good luck! Ъ×

IME any lube on the rear DR cable is too much and will make it shift slow / delayed. I've used LPS
to extend the life of a cable a couple of rides, but when mine do what you described, I replace the
cable AND the housing! I also use shimano cable seals to keep dirt out and I use teflon cable (YMMV,
but it works for me)...
