rapid fire shifter repair

Otherwise it doesn't seem to catch. Does it just need a
cleaning and a lube? I have heard horror stories of the
amount of parts this thing has and worry that I will end up
with many small pieces if I try to fix it. ANy helpful tips?

Yes, replace them. It doesn't have to cost much. I just
bought and received some Deore rapid-fire shifters from
Jenson USA. I was expecting the levers to be floppy, loose
and just generally cheap feeling, but they are very well
built. They only cost $15 and came w/warranty.

wouldn't want to have to use those dang things on a mtn bike

I don't know, I don't know what happened, Rick. I had seen
them for sale for quite some time when I bought mine but -
yes - they are no longer listed! Sorry. I must've really
lucked out or something. These were the OEM ones without
cables or housing JUST the shifters for $15. When I have
seen things disappear from Jenson's site, I've called them
to see if they are still available and so far I have been
successful. The last example of this was a Deore disc hub.
I'm guessing that either one of two things are happening.
They suspend sales of an item once inventory becomes low
enough just to guarantee fulfillment of current orders, or
they keep a certain number around because they know a
certain percentage of recent orders will be returned as
malfunctioning. Whatever, give their sales people a call,
they may have some extras in stock that they can let go.
