  1. Ranch-Style Buttermilk Dressing

Please note - I use Hellman's (which is, I believe, Best Foods in the
    west)
mayo - for this dressing, for anything calling for prepared mayo. I use
    low
fat buttermilk, and still find this absolutely tangy and creamy. While
    all
of the ingredients are important (the onion, etc,), I think the key
ingredients are the celery leaves, the celery seed, and good quality (and
not old!) dried thyme. These three items really give it THE taste.

    3/4 cup mayonnaise
    1/4 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup minced celery with leaves
    2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon grated or finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced very finely
    1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
    1/4 teaspoon celery seed
    1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Combine the salad dressing ingredients, and stir very well. Pour over the
greens when you are ready to serve.
