Hmm, the defender of cycling seems like a smug, self-righteous, whining
twit. He defended cycling by saying that he's fitter than you, faster
than you, greener than you and safer than you (kills less people). Twit.
That ain't a way to get people on side.
The angle he should have taken is that he takes up less roadspace and is
easier to pass than a dawdling cager, doesn't take up rare parking spaces
in car parks and should he collide with your car will barely scratch it.
Condemming pavement cyclists and exposing those who jump red lights at
imaptient fools would have rounded his defence of nicely, conceding that
many idiot cyclists are a nuisance & pointing out that their life
expectancy is very short. Instead he loudly proclaimed that he jumps red
lights 'cos he was once in an accident when waiting at one. B'ah.
You lot, please email, say you drive as well as cycle, and tell Mr. Smug
that people like him on bikes should have the clippers used on 'em.
Point out that cycling in a safe, legal and predictable way is what keeps
you out of trouble, rather than the idiotic hopping on and off pavements
and jumping red lights. To the motorist explain that you take up less
roadspace, are easier to pass, make traffic jams shorter and never nick
that last parking space. He'll love you, even if your presence does make
him use his mirrors on occasion.
