As the group knows, I bought an M:Parts seatpost clamp with rack bosses the other day. Works fine.
My bike is a Claud Butler Roubaix, a road bike with an aluminium frame. Last night a friend asked if it was wise to fit a rack to an aluminium road bike. (There are tapped holes near the rear dropouts). The rack fits on OK.
Is there some potential problem with fatigue or cracking? I wouldn't want to put e.g. camping gear on the rack, just panniers for day trips, and maybe going to the shops.

Our old aluminium crack'n'fail has carried panniers for the vast majority of its 30,000 miles, sometimes a very heavy camping load (tent plus equipment for 2, all on the rear rack).

Until recently I had an Orange O2 (alu frame) with rack on the back. As it was a monostay frame it only had one strut from the rack to the frame, and was mounted into alu eyelets at the dropout. I used to regularly overload it with upto 30kg. Never had any problems.
