  1. I thought I'd give my first invitational race report and let me know
what you thinkand any suggestions you have. The course was 3.1miles
exactly with a split between paved and hard dry grass. The winning
time was just under 17 minutes (the one kid ran a 15:30 last year.)
The weather was warm, but not greatly. Here is my mile splits

    5:20-5:25 first mile
    11:20ish
and an 18:36 as a finish.

I thought the first mile was way too fast and I dropped a lot on the
last one. We have another meet tuesday at our home course.

Yes, 5:20 is very fast if you're averaging a 6:00 pace. It's hard to hold back
if everyone's running too fast, but it's good to keep in mind. At least
compared to everyone else, hang back a bit so that you're only going moderately
    too fast.

    Cheers,

Well this comming meet I'm going to try 5:40 mile splits. It will be
easier to pace since it's a duel meet and I might be the fastest then
again it will be harder to run my maximum.

Oh. Excuse me. I made a mistake. When I saw the title of the thread was
'Race Report,' I thought it was going to be a chance to express my feelings
about the chinques and [censored] and niggars.

[censored] are a race, too, aren't they?

    That's a 17:30 pace -- kind of fast coming off an 18:36.

You could instead try to hit the first mile in 6:00 and try to pick it
up from there. That would still be fast enough to give yourself a shot at
17:30, and you're going to be passing people in the last 2 miles that way.
That's going to feel really slow, but you'll run a faster time that way, and
they will come back to you.

    Cheers,
