  1. It started 4 weeks ago after I ran fast up a slight incline.
Right side inside...my groin area. Now it hurts after
    a mile or 2. max 3. I haven't run at all for 2 weeks.
Today I ran pretty slowly for about a mile and it began.

This groin pain followed about 4 weeks of R hip pain
which included some shooting type pains for a while.
Just as I felt 100%, this groin thing showed up.

So, I need to be in good shape in 3 weeks and 1 day.

My thinking is the best I can do is light stretching,
and no running. My fitness should be good enough
for the race (it's my first 50K trail and I have no time
expectations or real limits). So, mostly I'll be hiking.
And running when I can. But I do not want a DNF
on my record. Being absolutely last will be fine with me.

Any other suggestions? (and don't say to skip the race.
I've paid already and I'll be toeing up to the start line).
    thanks...thehick

  2. when I work and had a job,
Lifted a lot of weights and was running here in this group.
Now not to your question. (A new life) and older.

stretching is the worst you can do.
    you need to heal it.
if it is spas-um yes maybe. then the 5 day rip thing is a muscle
anything over 5 days could be a ten-abbs or something else.
1-5 days for a rip to mend it cell.
a wrap around the muscle could be damage. so wraps could help the heal.
anyways as you probe no. swelling i the enemy so if swollen you have to
    ice it and take aspirin.

as for the hip too. this could be over used with the groin if it is not
from what I said before. a knee cap of mine pop out and left a scar,
from the inside I can look at my leg and see the smile face scar. 3
times the size of the knee cap. this is pop back in. the hip muscle our
small and flexors can damage. you must think more on the line of the
size of muscle that is damage.
running if you put your Legs, Butt and Back muscles used to run..there
pretty big.......and allot of running power.

training the little muscles is the key. they can't hold up to L.S.D.
running and get tired and then break.......
the biggest probe I had back then is not knowing how strong I got...I
broke every thing in cluding me......

your average people quit and I didn't so I allways got hurt.....and
    still do.....
(a new person) god don't care about legs........ he cares about
    fear..........

r u afraid? (sorry a old person thing)
    anyways hope this helps.

your age is a major consideration here in the recovery process. a
moderate pulled groin will take 6-7 weeks to recover from easily,
especially for a 40+ yr old. beyond moderate could very easily take
8-12 weeks, perhaps even as much as 6 months to recover from. a good
litmust test is lying flat on your back and doing stiff leg raises
about 6" off the ground and holding it for a while. if you can sustain
this exercise, and then even rotate your leg at the hip joint from this
position...you don't have much of a groin strain.

*if* you've got a moderate pulled groin i would not exercise that area
at all, no cycle-spinning. there is only one thing you can do, and
it's a very good thing, and that's jump rope...which would exercise
your calves/ankles & upper body very well...while for the most part
    stablize your groin area.

based on everything you've said, you're about to make a unwise choice.
i doubt you've time for sufficient recovery, even for a mild groin
strain...and even then you would want a gradual re-introduction into
    running on it. imo you're courting a "lose - lose". 1) DNF & 2)
Unable to Run for 6 months.

ok done. hurts a bit but not much. i think i'll just take it 100%
easy till race day. and even then I'll not try too hard. if i dnf
and don't run for 6 months, well, you tried to tell me.
i will continue doing some ab work and stretch quads & hams.
    thanks for the advice...thehick
