Quote of the day (from non-riders)

Today's best quote:

"Holy sh*t!"
From a bicyclist passing me.

Most boring quote:
"Left."
From a boring bicyclist passing me.

Plus I got positive comments from not one, but *two* different drivers
of pickups this morning! One, who was parked on the side, even folded
back his mirror and gave me a thumbs up out the window! I can't remember
what they said though, it's a busy morning here...

While riding my relatively new 29er today, a comment from a boy about
10-years-old to his 3 friends. "He's riding a new unicycle."

And I thought nobody noticed.

Early last March I went to the toughest swithbacks on the Island. I
was attempting to get in shape for Moab. The hike is about 1500" in
elevation. I first hiked to the top then started down on the good part.
The trail is very bumpy with a combination of rocks and roots. I was
quarter way down taking a break and checking out the big ocean view when
I met a hiker.

He ask me:

"Are you trying to break a record?"

I had to laugh at that. I told him " No"?

As it turn out I did break a personal record. I fell off the unicycle
200 times in less than an hour. It figures out to a fall every 10
seconds.

The view on the trail is sweet but until I get better the trail is not
fun enough yet.

When I go to Oahu next Feb. I want to ride *that* trail! :) Sounds
like a great challenge. Both as a goal for you, and as a tourist
adventure for me!

Shout of the night from a passing car...

"Oi you c**t! Fall off you 4-eyed b*st**d!"

...so, they've just demonstrated to me and other people within earshot
that they are big c**ts themselves. Their attempt to abuse actually
amused me.

I was out riding Muni today. Coming towards me was a mountain biker. As

When i was going up the chairlift at Northstar in July, i was looking
down at these hikers, then they looked at our unis on the next chair
behind us and a 20-30 year old hiker yelled, "you guys are ANIMALS!!!!!"

I like MikeFule's comment. I'm gonna start tellin' everyone I ride an
Onlycycle.

Here in the Southern U.S. there are popular 'God Is My Co-Pilot'
stickers for cars. I need one that continues... 'and HE took my other
wheel.'

Except that being dragged from a unicycle and beaten to death by
fundamentalists seems a horrible waste of life. My life, anyway. If
someone else would like to get that sticker, well, I'm all for ya.

Just at the quickie mart. Got off the wheel to go inside and, once
again, a lady asks me, "Do you ride that thing?"

What the hell did she think I had been doing up until the point she
actually asked me the question?

I wouldn't be so mystified if it was the first time.

People.

Tonight, as I was finishing up a short training ride at dusk, I passed a
mom and dad walking with their ~ 6-year-old girl. The girl sees me and
says "Look, there's a guy on a..................log!

I imagine the only comparison she had for what I looked like was from
some cartoon image of someone log-rolling.

Today:

Another guy in a white pick-up truck! He pulled up alongside me as I was
accelerating away from a traffic light.
Me: "How fast am I going?"
Guy: "17" (not bad for uphill)
Me: "Thanks!"
Guy: "Where do you get a big wheel like that?"
Me: "Unicycle.com"
(and now for the good part)
Guy: "I can do that too."

You know how sometimes you can tell when somebody really can ride, and
when you somehow know they are BS-ing you? He was for real.
