I've just recently gotten into cycling and beginning to get fairly serious in terms of a pleasure sport and not just the occasional once a month cycle. I have a few Q's however: I'm looking for a good roadbike for around 500 pounds, don't know if it matters but I'll probably be covering distances of around 20km per ride, on what will mostly be relatively flat services. What bike would be most suited and where would be the best place to go? I'm willing to go 2nd hand if it means I can get a more advanced bike. Same applies for clothing and helmets where is the best place to go? I live in Edinburgh and I know there is a cycling shop there but I'm wondering if it's better to purchase online. Finally I've not managed to persaude friends to take up cycling with me, where can I go to find if there are cycling clubs in or around Edinburgh? Or even if there is anyone here interested. Thanks in advance. Jamie
Go to your local bike shop and build a relationship with them. The can guide you to the answers to all your questions and provide services and support that are impossible to get online.
No one can tell you which bike is best for you. You need to ride several to decide what your preferences and options are. Then you need a local bike shop to ensure it fits you.
