I am fairly new to biking and just bought a Trek 4900 series 19.5 inch frame. I have been riding the bike every day through the trails with no problems so far. I have always had Wal-Mart bikes and know very little about them. I have been reading these forums for the past couple days and think I am in trouble. Although I am highly comfortable on the bike, I am afraid for my gonads. The bike is a dream to ride through the trails, but now that I have been reading it looks like the frame is too big for me. I am 5'7 and my inseam is 30.5 inches approximately. My balls touch the top bar with my feet flat on the ground. What do I do?

What do I do?I just bought a TREK 6500 (4900 is not available in The Netherlands) But it's the same frame. I'm 6 foot and the guy told me i should get the 19,5 inch. So you can see that you're frame might be a bit big.
But when you don't experience any pain and the position of the steer isn't too far away you can ride it, but i think you might have a problem with power loss because you're frame is too big.
So what you want to do, is up to you. You can keep on riding ( no problems there if you are comfortable) Or you can try to get a smaller frame just to make sure you've got the right bike for your length.

No problems with power or pain. Plenty of power, I really feel comfortable on the bike. The only thing I was concerened about was the standover. 🙁

My wife just just remeasured my inseam....It seems to be around 30.5-31.5". The b ottom line is that the bike seems comfortable but there isn't boatloads of room for my little guys. There is no way the shop would take this bike back. It's a couple weeks old and used.

It's a couple weeks old and used.:eek:I am a pretty big guy and I was told by the kid/salesman at the bike shop that a general rule of thumb when sizing a frame to your body is to straddle the frame and you should have about a 2 to 3 finger clearance between your crotch and the frame. If you are comforatble on the bike and your not bill gates I would say keep riding and not let it bother you unless it becomes a problem. If it becomes a problem then the only thing I can tell you is do your best to take care of the bike so re-selling it to get a better fitting bike won't be a problem.
