You didn't give enough information to decide if this is a good idea, but I'll tell you anyway. If it's a coil spring, you can swap out the coil for a piece of Schedule 80 aluminum pipe to lock it out. Cost: about $10 including shipping from www.onlinemetals.com This is assuming the bike is a beater. If you're planning on doing any real trail riding, you're going to be dragging a lot of dead weight around with this setup as opposed to a proper hardtail.
