I have recently been told that canines are related to
dolphins. Of course I accept they are both mammals, but
could anybody tell me how closely they are related and if
possible how long ago they would have shared the same common
ancestors?

are the Ungulates (hoofed animals). This was determined
among others by comparing the structure of body proteins.
The closest relative is probably the hippopotamus (Ursing
and Arnason, 1998).''- faqs.orgpart01Open ↗
