I lost from 206 to 174 and have maintained that weight within about 4
pounds for a year. All of the weight was lost without an exercise
program. About a week ago, I started using an elliptical trainer at the
YMCA for 30 minutes a day, four times per week. I don't normally weigh,
but I decided to do so this morning. It was a surprise to see 183. My
daily intake is 20 to 30 carbs a day, which has not changed. I was 178
no longer than a month ago. I did not cheat any over Christmas. Is it
possible that the exercise is shocking my body into holding onto water?
It is highly unlikely that any lard has turned into muscle this early.

You are better off taking measurements at this point. The scale may not
tell the whole story. I would say you gained some fat, but maybe 174 was
too low for you. How are your clothes fitting?Curt

They don't seem any tighter. I asked my doctor how exercise could cause
an increase in body fluid. He said that if there is inflammation from
the exercise (trauma to the joints and muscles because of my lifelong
sedentary-ness -- guilty) that the body will retain fluids. I'll give it
a week to see what happens.Has anyone else experienced this scenario?
I would like to be at 165, but when I got to 174, my weight loss just
stopped. Flat. Immediately. I bounced between 174 and 178 with the
clothes getting tighter and looser. The magic number, however, was 174,
which I'd like to break through. My opinion is that even on 20 grams per
day, some people will still never reach their ideal weight, at least
without exercise. We'll see. I'm patient!curt said:

You're most likely just eating too much.
