Question about Folding Bikes

I own Montague MX model which is the 'mountain' variant of their
folding bike (different drivetrain and front fork from CX). I travel
with it folded in the car trunk - haven't tried taking it on airplanes.
It's still quite large when folded. The folding mechanism is great,
really sturdy when unfolded. Feels like a regular bike. The drivetrain
components are entry level; sufficient for leisure rides, but not
suited for climbing. Deraillieurs and brakes need more ajustment than
non-folding. Front wheel has to be removed when folding; takes a few
minutes manouvering it out past the v-brakes.

Overall - a great entry level bike that folds.

I have an older Montague Urban, which is kind of their hybrid. I've put
mountain bike tires on it on occasion as well.

They no longer make the old Urban, which looked like standard
diamond-frame bicycle.

The Montague folders ride like a regular bicycle, but they don't fold
quickly, or very small. The front wheel must be removed to fold.

I think that if you're going to 26" wheels that you should consider one
of the newer Dahon models,

What's the deal with the sand though? You're not riding in the sand are you?

When tooling about on Anastsia Island you often find it better to take
one of the

shorter but sandy roads. When they have a hard pack, no problem. About
two years ago, I came off of the tarmac onto the sand and it threw me.
Result, 5 breaks in one bone (like an accordian) and one in the another
arm bone. Sold both the Brompton and the Bike Friday on eBay.

I rode an old Montague Mountain [no longer made] until I wore out the
SunTour drivetrain, then sold the frame on eBay last year. Here's a photo:

Prior to the Montague, I made good use of a Dahon Tailwind_26 for a few
years. The Dahon folded smaller, but the Montague was a better bike for me.
