If i use recessed cleat, mtb, shoes can i use the platrform side while I am in city traffic and then clipin when I am on the road? Or would the clips tend to egyt caught oor slio off the cage?

In short, yes.
You really answered your own question. MTB shoes have recessed cleats so you can walk in them. By the same token the recessed cleat will be out of the way of a pedal platform.

Yes, just be carefull when unmounting that the cleat doesn't grab.
