While they should have been more specific (& I'm surprised
that it wasn't written on your follow up appt. card), there
are MANY people who want to get through a visit to the doc
before heading off to work. The facility where I work as a
nurse opens at 5am for patients (I usually open, showing up
there at 4:45am) & closes the medical dept. at 12 noon --
some of the non-medical facility staff are there until 2pm.
Patients who work just about any shift can find the time to
come in without jeopardizing their jobs or neglecting family
obligations. It allows this organization to operate without
the extra cost & hassles of multiple shifts -- savings which
the patients see reflected in the fees they are charged.
I still always specify "am" or "pm" when scheduling an
appt for a pt.
