I was converting my horizonal dropout bike to SS last night and quickly realized that the clamping force of a quick release is not enough to hold the wheel in place. I ended up replacing the screw on side of the quick realease with regular nut and washer so that I could tighten it down with a wrench after clamping. It seems to be holding just fine now but I'm a little worried that the extra pull will damage the lever side of the qr.
I'll likely replace the QR with the proper hardware if the setup appeals to me, but until then do I need to worry? Is there much chance of a catastropic failure? It's an XT QR

You'd probably have more luck with the QRs if you used chain tugs with them, eg
What you eventually will want is a SS rear hub with axel lugs, which together with the tensioner will hold the rear wheel fast. Necessary on steep climbs.
I had bad luck with Spot (the axel broke), and am currently running a Paul . Chris King, Phil Wood, White Industries, and Surly are other examples of well known manufacturers making SS rear hubs.
