I was converting my horizonal dropout bike to SS last night
and quickly realized that the clamping force of a quick
release is not enough to hold the wheel in place. I ended up
replacing the screw on side of the quick realease with
regular nut and washer so that I could tighten it down with
a wrench after clamping. It seems to be holding just fine
now but I'm a little worried that the extra pull will damage
the lever side of the qr.
I'll likely replace the QR with the proper hardware if the
setup appeals to me, but until then do I need to worry? Is
there much chance of a catastropic failure? It's an XT QR
