I avoid double acting pumps as I've found that the valve
mechanisms are delicate and prone to failing when you really
need them.Marty

I avoid double acting pumps as I've found that the valve
mechanisms are delicate and prone to failing when you
really need them. It's also much harder to keep from putting excessive
pressure on the valve stem when you have to support it in
both directions. I'd rather be able to brace my hand or the
head of the pump against a wall or the ground, and not have
to worry about supporting it on the return stroke.--
