Thanks for telling me about the Top Off.
I've bought one on eBay for my mom, who'll
turn 80 this year. It hasn't arrived yet,
but I'm sure it'll be good. I like hearing
about tools that are really great, but not
made anymore.
I notice in your picture that you have a
late version, because it has a plastic
handle. Most Top Offs on eBay are the
older type with the wooden handle. There
appear to be two kinds of wooden handle,
either rounded or flat ends. Wooden handles
were only offered in red and green, while
plastic handles were offered in several
colors. These tools are not rare. At any
given time, you'll find several being
offered on eBay. That's probably why they
aren't being made anymore -- the company
saturated their market with a tool that
lasts forever.
Your unit also differs in having smaller
jaws for gripping the jar lid. I wonder
if that works better, or whether it was
done to reduce costs. I may have to buy
one of the later ones to compare.
