If you need the low gears you get with a triple, buy a triple. Simple concept. If you need lower gears than what you can get with a traditional double with a 39 small ring, but not as low as what you can get with a 30 tooth triple granny, then consider a 'compact' double with a 34 ring. If you live where the hills/mountians are small or non existant, then it's probably a no brainer for a double. If you don't have a clue about what you need, no one else does either, but you will probably get alot of BS. Try scrolling down. There are plenty of threads about triples/doubles/ compacts and gearing in general.
