A short report to show my progress:
After Martin and others supplied some tips to develop better technique and to speed up, I have been
doing training very specific to that. Without regard for speed, I have worked on long side glides
and a more efficient stroke to bring down my stroke count. I'm using a smaller pool these days -
about 15m long - and I have brought my count down from 14 to 12 on a good day, or even 11 on an
excellent day. So I'm getting there.
After several reps of that, I'll speed things up and do fast laps. I notice that I am retaining my
newly-learned technique even while going faster. It would appear that things are falling into place.
After several speed laps, I'll bring down the tempo and do a continuous swim of at least 400-500m,
sometimes more.
Today, I took to the open water again and man, it went SO well. I was just cruising along, able to
move faster, with less effort, and definitely with better form.
Thanks to all for the helpful words. I'm going to stick with this throughout winter (ugh) and then
I'll finish next year's tri swims a little higher in the standings.
