Profile Design H2O quill stem?

  1. Hi there.

    I was thinking about getting a 90 degrees 120 mm reach Profile Design
    H2O quill stem with a 26 mm hb clamp. you can see the stem at:

    Then, when I saw it at the shop I saw that it is welded where the
    quill section meets the part that holds the handle bar. I did not like
    the clunky appearance but was more concerned about a possible failure
    of the welded join. I would be using it on a cro-moly steel fork on a
    good quality cro-moly steel road-touring bike (32 mm tyres) I often
    ride cross-country (un-competitive cyclo-cross) on.

    Is this a good quality stem? Is there any reason to fear a sudden stem
    failure at the weld with this stem?

    That may be the ugliest stem ever built. Get a Salsa cro-moly stem.

    We have sold many w/o any issue or problem. Yes, it is but ugly but it
    works.

    We've sold several hundred Profile H20 of the current model without a
    single failure, including crashes. Yes, they are tough.

    For pretty, a Nitto Pearl? If the Pearl dimensions fit you, they are
    only $30 extra. Cold forged with a long and dependable history.
