  1. I recently purchased my first road bike, the Ventura Protour sora compact 2011.
    I built it, got on and realised it was too big, I was debating going into a shop to fit a bike properly but as I bought my bike online I was assured by all the sizing charts that it would fit me.

    My problem;
    When I start to ride I am stretching forward more than I should be, I have quite a large stem going out to my handlebars.

    Is it nessecary to buy a new, shorter stem?
    Or is there a solution that could fix this?
    Would I just be able to move my seat forward or something daft like that?

  2. ask for help from someone qualified, there are a number of parts that you can change or adjust for good positioning, before you conclude that the frame is not of your size,

    +1 to this.
    As long as you're within several centimeters on top tube and seat tube length, finding an acceptable position is very feasible. The compromises you may make to get a good fit with your current bike in relation to a "perfectly" sized bike are inconsequential at this stage in your road bike riding experience, IMO.
