Problem with Schwinn Bike Brakes

The cable is coming unseated at the brake lever after you release the brake. The most likely cause is a kink or other kind of damage to the brake cable or the brake cable housing. Your hand is strong enough to pull through the damaged section, but the return springs on the lever and caliper are not, so the brake stays engaged.

The solution is to replace the brake cable and housing.

Is this something i could fix myself? If i can what would replacing it cost me? or what would a shop charge me to fix it?

It's not hard to change a cable and housing. It might get a bit harder if the cable is routed internally. You might want to be extra careful on how much you tighten the cable in the brake fixture so it wont become loose under operation and make the brake stop functioning. Or maybe over-tightening the cable and causing it to brake. I am not sure of the torque value for tightening cables but manufacturers might have some guidelines if you use a torque wrench.

If it's just one cable maybe it doesn't really make sense to DIY since cables and housings are usually sold in sets and they are not that cheap compared to buying whole rolls of cables and housings per meter.

Shops have whole rolls of cables are housings and lots of times just replace them without asking when they overhaul a bike.

If you get a bike in for a cable change around here it would probably be something like 5 euro... If you change all the cables (which is not a bad idea) it might be something like 10 euro...

But over there they charge you guys 300 USD for a 2 hour fitting session, so I have no idea what would they charge. Maybe ask the LBS first?

Turned out all i needed to do was oil and tighten the brake line. It was popping out like that because the line was loose.
