I have a Raleigh 3 speed with coaster brake, yesterday my husband changed the rear inner tube (flat), and ever since, when I ride the bike, the rear section makes a "ping, ping" sound as I ride...if I stop pedaling and let the bike coast, it still makes it. Its got a hollow, metallic sound when it does this "ping, ping" or "click, click" sound.
Any ideas what it might be? Also, any advice for REALLY squeaky brakes? Just a cleaning of the brake shoes or rims, or change the whole brake assembly, or just change pads?
Hard to say when it comes to mystrious noises. I’ll try & re-install the rear wheel again, easiest thing to do, might even go away.
Maybe the struggle your husband had taking off the rear tyre might have ‘tweeked’ the rim, or applied anodd pressure to it & un-settled (settled??) how some of the spokes sit in their nipples. But I’m not sure really, just tried to work in the word nipple in this post to you…….
Brakes? Clean the rims & the pads, if it’s a rim brake. Don’t know about coaster brakes. Nothing at all.
