I am attempting to upgrade the firmware on my 2 power taps to 4.06 and have run into a problem. I got Bootloader to work, but when I select the 4.06 file and attempt to run it, i get the following error message:

" first line does not start with a colon"

i have deleted & re-downloaded the file several times from the Saris site and each time, the same error message appears. by the way, when i open the file using Word, there is a colon in front of all lines of the code.

has anyone else run into this problem? if so, how did you solve it?

Or is there a better way to upgrade the firmware?

I am using Windows Vista.

well, i solved my own problem..........i opened the text file, deleted the colon in the first line, re-inserted a colon, saved the file, then attempted to upload.

it worked so i upgraded both of my PT's.

thanks anyway !

How do you know if you have the coded HR or without coded HR?
My current version is 2.21.

i am not a total expert on Powertap, but in the "test" mode (hold both buttons down so that the display goes from Find to CLR to TEST) of both of my computers, there resided a HR strap code. i was able to program both of them to the same HR strap so I don't have to keep my HR straps straight.
