Have a little problem with my Steintrikes Viper: the chainline goes very close to the crossbar, and
seems the chain occasionally rubs/eats on the crossbar.
I have a 80 mm idler wheel at the moment, and a Sora 53/39 double. The current crankset only gives
me around 42 km/h at 100 rpm. Though I find a cadence of 110 still quite comfortable, and 120 could
be ok for sprints. (My normal, cruising cadence with 175 mm cranks is 95-110.) I put three washers
in place (plus an aluminium sheet) for spacing. Their problem is that the locknut can't engage and
will become loose when riding. It never fell off yet, though.
Any suggestions? Now I'm thinking maybe I should go to 100 mm idler wheel - would 90 mm ones be
available somewhere? 100 mm would chop off 10 mm of the ground clearance, but the idler is very
close to wheel axles so I guess it doesn't matter, especially when the chain is very low hanging...
With 100 mm idler I could get any chainring I need, I bet.
Maybes I should take a good picture...
