What do you guys eat before a ride? I normaly eat a big plate of pasta half an hour to and hour before. But lately thats been causing stomach discomfort and ive been burping up a storm. So what do you guys eat? and how long before the ride?

A bowl of oatmeal with some salt, soy milk, and a mix of Splenda and brown sugar to sweeten it up. About 30-60 minutes before the ride.

Pasta is usually used the night before. Try something lighter. I usually do a latte and toast but everyone's different (people tell you not to do caffeine, but...). Lots of people just do a PBJ, whole wheat bread.

Go to Google and do a search on "bicycle training breakfast" or other combos similar.

Large bowl of oatmeal, splenda & raisins mixed in seems to be working for me.

Oatmeal, raisins, brown sugar normally. Lately with all the talk of Protein playing a bigger role in endurance, I've shited to eating more protein before I ride, i.e. protein bar instead of carb type bar or eggs. I have noticed an increase in ride time and quality by adding protein. A study showed that riders who incorporated protein and carbs lasted 40% longer...

I usually stick to toast with peanut butter and coffee. Sometimes no coffee though and just gatorade, depending on my state of hydration at the time. This also can vary depending on my blood sugar (I'm a type 1 diabetic). I have noticed that anything with too much milk (like cereal) gives me stomach problems during the ride quite quickly.

I heard a good Podcast about that on Endurance Radio at www.enduranceradio.com. This guy recommends Ensure along with several other recommendations. Most of this is for pre-race meals but I think the general idea still follows.

Check it our here.

Most of the rides I do start in the morning so I usually eat two packages of Quaker Oatmeal. I prefer the Reduced Sugar ones. I also have a coffee and a banana. Then just before the ride I have another banana.

I have been finding that anything over 2 hours at a level 3 or 4 intensity ride and I bonk. I am trying to drink gatorade instead of water while I ride and also to take 1 Power Bar Gel Pak every hour to see if I can push that wall back. I am also focussing on keeping my HR steady. I average in the level 3 and 4 but I am out of the zone most of the time (either high or low).

this is what I love about cycling. I can eat whatever I want to before a ride. I can't eat anything within like 5 hours of a run. But, I usually just eat a bowl of oatmeal.

A 16 ounce Steak, one pitcher of very dark beer. French fries....gotta have it. Now for dessert.....can't decide btwn chocolate cake or chessecake.

Then I'm ready for a Century
