  1. Man, I couldn't believe my hub is having issue with moistures again. This is a rebuilt hub after I sent in my first one early this Feb. Did a 5 hours+ training ride in the rain and wet road. The hub was losing singals intermittedly at the 3rd hour. Sometimes, I could get the computer to pick up the signals by doing a bunny hop or hitting some bumps on the road. I got home and tried to narrow down what was the problem. Computer can pick up speed from a wheel magnet when the computer is in the HRM mode. So, the harness is OK. Changed the batteries already. No good. No moistures inside the battery cover. However, there are some moistures on the drive side. What are the chances, based on your experience, the hub would come back to life in couple of days???

Can't answer your question about the hub coming back, since each case might be different, but my PT SL apparantly got moisture in via the drive side and didn't come back, had to return it to Saris. They literally replaced everything inside the hub shell, and told me the newest torque tubes (or other internals) are epoxy sealed to keep the moisture out. You might want to give Saris a call. I got the repaired hub back about 2 weeks ago and it was out in the rain for about 2 1/2 hours today, worked fine, I'm hoping it will start up again tomorrow. (The previous failure was truly weird - PT was working fine, I swapped the PT wheel for a lighter wheel for a hilly race, and when I put the PT back on two days later it wouldn't work. All it had done was hang in the garage for two days! I replaced batteries, tried a different cpu, and ended up using it in bike-computer-mode with a non-PT wheel for about two weeks; I just couldn't get it to work in Power mode. Saris said to send in the wheel, after repair they told me the problem was moisture in the drive side...)

  3. Did they charge you? I remember you have the SL hub replaced couple of times since its launch. So, is over a year since the day you purchased it. How many of the SL hubs you have gone through so far???

No charge - Saris service is phenomenal! I've had the hub serviced twice. The first time was during the SL start-up problems, when many of the early hubs had "quality control" issues (i.e. one supplier had provided components that were not up to spec). That time Saris sent me a pre-paid return sticker, and loaned me a PT Pro while they repaired my hub, so the service was entirely free. This time I had to pay the shipping to Saris, but the service/parts replacement was still free, and they paid the shipping back to me, I think it took about two weeks. Since I presume I'm out of any warrantee period, I have to assume that Saris considered the incomplete waterproofing "their" design/manufacture issue and didn't charge me; I would certainly have paid for the repair had they asked. Since I've definitely eaten up any profit they could have made on my hub, the best I can do is let others know what a "stand up" company Saris is!
