later this year I am planning on getting some zipp 303 powertap wheels, after seeing the cost I have had second thoughts. This is because I bought my bike on e-bay based on standover heigth(I'm new so please excuse my stupidity) After getting a fitting at a local bike shop I had to add a 110 mm stem with the max rise you can get along with a set-back seatpost to achieve proper reach and hip angle(though the saddle dosen't seem to be behind the BB). Yet on steep climbs and sometimes on a long sprint I find my rear sliding as far off the back of the saddle as it can so I can push harder. I now wonder whether a better fitting bike or a power training device would be the most benefitial to my racing. I did OK as a cat 5 then 4 on this bike last year but have been getting my ass kicked in the 3s this season.I doubt its the bikes fault but then again..? Any ideas? Thanks, Matteo

I think it is essential to get your frame size/bike position optimized as this is the foundation of your cycling abilities.
But, once you know what size frame to get, there is no reason why you cant cut the costs with firstly a second-hand frame, and secondly, a s/h powertap built wheel.
I have recently bought a pristine Cervelo dual(complete bike) from ebay at a very reasonable price, and also have a s/h powertap wheel in good working order. There are a few coaches out there with powertap wheels, having upgraded to SRM's etc so try to source these guys for some deals.
Good luck. -

if your comfortable on the bike - you're probably fine - if not you need a good fitting bike.
but, if you are comfortable on the bike - it is the size of the engine that counts - think power to maximize your training - with quality training and enough miles cat 3 success is in your reach!mmerchant
