We were thinking of developing a power meter within the £100 price range. It would fit onto the chain very simply and would have the ability to connect to a computer. My question is that would such a cheap power meter have much of a market given the fact that it would be aimed at amateurs? Surely people who want a power meter would be prepared to pay the premium for a superior system?

For sure there is a market, but what you are talking about already exists with the polar power option and it is only a tad more than the price you are talking about. You would need to "one up" them AND charge less and you could have a winner on your hands.
