Well, I'm totally screwed - ALL my power meters broke! My ergometer and my Polar S720i doesn't download anymore.

Just go ride. If you want to ride your favorite hill as if you're following Contador and smash your brains out, do it. If you want to just ride because riding is ace, do it... Have fun.

If it takes a piece of equipment on your bars flashing a number at you to get motivated - you're in the wrong sport. Those numbers are there to help you train, not be there to motivate you to train.
