Your ISP's NNTP server probably did a purge.

    Dear Wle,

Google and Cycling Forums both recently had
bouts of indigestion, taking up to two days to
reveal posts visible on other servers.

Google has an ongoing habit of coyly listing a
dozen new posts, which it then claims do not
exist, and then throwing its hands up and removing
    them.

An hour or so later, the new posts re-appear,
are easily accessible, and we all act as if nothing
    happened.

The same is true of the happy error messages
in which Google throws away your attempt to
post an earth-shaking reply--copy your scrawl
to a clipboard before pushing the "post-message"
    button.

    Sympathetically,

    Carl Fogel
