Looking for a lakehouse with decent riding nearby. Has to be within about 3-4 hours of Birminham AL. Pretty much means NW Georgia or NE Alabama (or even parts of Eastern TN or Western NC).
Can anybody name a good lake to look around?
I ask here, because one of the key criteria is (duh) access to good riding. And I know I can always count on this group to provide thoughtful, polite suggestions.

I'd say go a coupla more hours into western N.C, and you'd find a plethora of sites. (alot of places on Fontana!) But there are a fair share in NW Georgia too.

I know I know. The problem is that if I push for a place more than 3-4 hours my wife will (rightly) ask, "why not just get a beach house"
The goal is to have a place that's pretty easy to get everybody up to Friday nights and home at a reasonable hour on Sunday (or even Monday morning before work).
You're a Georgia guy, right? Is there anything up in the Rome area?

I dunno about any lake front rentals up there. (Not even sure if there is a sizable lake in the area. There are the Coosa & Etowah rivers though. ) But I do know there are MILES and MILES of trails in and around Berry College.
