  1. I am currently in the process of buying a touring bike. i found one that i really like but the man at the store keeps trying to lead me away from it because it has disc brakes. I am going to bike across country next summer and he thinks that if i have any problems with the brakes i will be SOL. so my question is this, is it possible to fix disc brakes and if so please explain how!! i know very little so the more explaination you can give the better. Thanks

  2. I dunno anything about disc brakes, but would the store just swap the disc brakes for cantis or V's and knock the price difference off the cost? My LBS is quite flexible that way.

Not if there are no mounts for them.

Good point, but is that likely to happen on a touring frame/fork? I thought cantis were de rigeur for tourers.
