I have delveoped a condition called Carotenemia. I would like to seek professional advice on my condition.I am a vegetarin but I do eat fish. I recently have a blood check on my carotene level since I realize that I have very yellowish skin but not in my eye. I found out that my carotene level is 396 ( normal range is 60-200).Does it mean I have a lot of Vitamin A? I do not eat a lot of carrots and tomatoes and I just eat one orange/day.How can I end up with high carotene in my body?Do I lack of some necessary enzymes to metabolize
carotene or its congeners or in its various forms thus causing a backlog/buildup?
I know that too much carotene will have bone fracture, bone and joint pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and weight loss. Will the elevated Vitamin A decrease the Vitamine D intake so that there is a bone fracture? Will it be my kidney or liver have a problem? But the thing is I have blood tests for my kidney, liver and thyroid along with my carotene test. The tests turn out to be fine. So I really want to know what causes my carotene level high. What other effects will high carotene level give? and what other things that I should not eat or I should eat more eat to have a balance diet or FOOD that I should eat to decrease the aborption carrotene. Thanks for your help.

I don't imagine anyone here is going to ba able to answer your questions. Why don't you just Google it -- do a web search on that specific maladie, and go see a doctor?

Thanks for your help.Hi Kayla,
Do you still have that Carotenemia ? I have noticed you posted your question two years ago.
I have it for over 3 years but I was diagnosed just recently. Over a month ago I was diagnosed for hypothyroid problem.
I wonder what other symptoms did you have?
