When someone who has spent lots of money on the bike/equipment, talks like they know everything, and thinks they are God's gift to the bike. BUT IN REALITY, are not skilled at all.

aka, People who try too hard to be 'cool'

    Basso is incorrect

  4. when I was about 16 or 17(around 1990-91), I used to ride on my old Fuji Ace every day... a good freind and I must've ridden 100+ miles a week, together. There is a 26 mile (one way) bike trail nearby and we rode is often... I was young and naive to the intracacies (sp?) of cycling, yet I rode and rode in my sweatshorts and a t-shirt, eating fig-newtons (still a good ride food!!) and drinking snapple (in hindsight, not so good an idea). On some of these rides my freind and I would be riding down the local bike trails and on the side of the trail would be a 40+ yr old guy, with a huge gut, decked out in all the expensive riding gear, riding the top-o-the-line (at the time) Bianchi or Cannondale, sucking down a ciggarette, while trying to catch his breath... I think that this is when I decided that that would NEVER be me; and it also must be the first time I ever experienced what a "FRED" was. Though I have only recently heard the term, itself.
