Humber Consumer said:I have an unusal problem. I work on computers all day and few weeks back I started to have pain
on my right hand( I use mouse). Since last 3 days I am having "pins and needles" in my right arm
and right leg. Also it seems as if it starts near my right stomach. In past I had disc buldging
(lower back) but I don't have too much pain. I get the sensation in right leg sometimes
(especially when I drive - pressing gas paddle causes pins in my foot) and when I use mouse or
keyboard. The pins and needles are not very strong, I went to my doc and he said it may be stress
related, He prescribed "AMITRIPTYLINE HCL" but after taking that at night I feel drowsy and weak
all day next day.
Any thioughtso n wat it may be?
Elavil makes a person sleep like a log (literally)...sleep heavy (alcohol can make that worse),
which can make back problems worse (position - mattress, pillow support for your lower back). Is it
the side that you sleep on? Vary the side you sleep on each night. It made my carpal tunnel-like
symptoms and pins and needles worse. (also thyroid problems can be associated with that). It never
made me feel weak but I was just taking it for sleep and pain at 25 mg why Elavil? You haven't
mentioned depression nor sleep problem...there are perhaps other antidepressants that help with
sleep, depression and/or pain.
What dose? Some take 1/2 around supper and the balance about an hour before sleep (so less drowsy in
the morning). Weight? Age? Has your heart been checked? I see you have a new baby (pretty heavy to
pick up ?) Has this gotten worse since the baby?
Is your computer equipment ergonomic (chair, desk, keyboard), if not, buy some if you intend to stay
at that job. do you take breaks every 15 minutes to stretch? I worked for a computer company for 7
years. It was great but my health got worse for many of the reasons I mention above, plus working
too many hours including at home, on the computer. Some just can't do it.
I can see a lower back problem (maybe) causing pins and needles in the leg, but surely not the arm,
so you've maybe got 2 problems there. Here's amitriptyline (Elavil)

I'll try to watch for your reply, but if you don't address all the issues/questions I mention above,
I'll likely not reply again. J
