  1. You okay? I see that a piece of your community has disappeared. Lordy,
I hope your house wasn't one of them -- that would REALLY hose you up!
    Lemme know, eh?

That was along Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach. We're at the top
of a mighty hill in Laguna Niguel - and our hill is on mostly bedrock
and the house sits on deep footings. 18 houses (or parts of them) fell
down the hill in Bluebird Canyon, according to the news on the radio.
A couple dozen houses fell down that same hill in 1978, which puts it
in the "duh" dept., AFAICS. Developers and homebuyers seem to care
more about their view than the stability of the hillside. We have a
nice view, but I wouldn't buy a house on a hillside or a cliff without
an engineering report. All those houses were $1,000,000 plus homes and
you can't insure against mudslides in California, AFAIK.

And thanks for asking, Barb. BTW, my dehydrator came today. We're
headed into trial on Monday, so I won't be able to make the DH beef
jerky until after the 16th, but hope to try it out then and maybe
bring a some to the Sandy Eggo cookin!

"If the soup had been as hot as the claret, if the claret had been as
old as the bird, and if the bird's breasts had been as full as the
waitress's, it would have been a very good dinner."
