The recent rfc thread hoping to regain a lost beloved one's shortcake
recipe caused me to remember something I think is quite vital. In 1991
I imagine I needed to experience something my daddy now and then said
(but never, ever did, I promise), which he threatened wound be "a knock
upside the head" in order to "pound some sense into" me.
When I was nine years into a very wrong relationship with a man, I was
hit by a car while walking with my dog one early evening (drunk driver
ran right through me, although I was quite off the road), smashing head
first onto a concrete driveway. Four months later I began to remember
who I was, but with lots of long term memory loss, and just about no
short term memory at all.
It took the discovery (re-discovery?) of my having what is commonly
called a "numbers brain" to give me a very needed tool for recovery of
short term memory within two years after brain smash, but I'll likely
never regain big spots of the lost long-term. Heck, I was nagged for
over five years with memory that I use "Miracle Whip" as the base for
potato salad dressing, but with "something else" added to the mix as
well. Finally I remembered, it's Vanilla! I remembered all along the
tangyness and hating of Miracle Whip as a sandwich spread, but I
somehow also knew I used it for potato salad, though not why.
Quoted message said:From very personal experience, I urge all of you to make time to write
cooking things down that are always there for you in personal memory.
Not only recipes for the things you know your family enjoy, but the
simple kitchen tricks that you live by as well. You just never know
when a time may come that you will even need those things for yourself.
