"The rumor is that Jan Ullrich has something big planned (Sat) and he can indeed remove the 67
seconds to Lance Armstrong..."

Anyone have any idea what this is referring to?

Tacks in his handlebars like the days of old. I hope the posties bring plenty of tire changes.

Maybe the Continental Tire engineers can break out the special liquid they put on his tires a few
years ago that supposedly saved him xx sec/ km.

News for October 5, 1999 Ullrich using chemicals - on the tires

By Tomas Nilsson, cyclingnews.com correspondent

Jan Ullrich will race on a special high tech tires on the ITT Wednesday. The tire manufacturer
Continental's development department has come up with a new set of tires. They are prepared with a
special thinning liquid which is supposed to lower the rolling friction by 30 to 40 percent.

"This could mean a couple of seconds per kilometer", said Continental manager Michael Marx, who was
track world champion in 1983.

The engineers of Continental will come to Treviso to prepare the tires by hand, a process that will
take a couple of hours. The disadvantage is a shorter life span, but they should probably hold
together over the 50 kms of the World Championships. The tires were tested in the Vuelta recently
and seemed to work as Ullrich won.

Maybe he can combine that with a cigarette lighter built into his saddle. A little added propulsion.

i cant believe ullrich would chance his tour on semi-tested equipment. the IF factor is too high jc

A couple of seconds a kilometer?

I find that hard to believe.

Don't rain much in the Vuelta.

I thought the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.

Maybe it has something to do with Ullrich's nervousness in the starting gate.

Maybe this explains the fall. The tires didn't last until the end of the race, not crosswalk paint
or hydroplaning.
