Race Report: Yet another crazy day in Italy. Paolo Tiralongo went with the early break, chased down escapee Tom-Jelte Slagter and then launched out on his own for the win. Behind; Alberto Contador, Fabio Aru and Richie Porte attacked from the peloton to distance Rigoberto Uran. Full gas Giro.Maybe it was the thought of tomorrow’s rest day or just the continuous craziness of the Giro that had the three top men for the GC (Contador, Aru and Porte) breaking away in the last kilometers. Who cares why, this is the kind of racing we want to see.The courseA tough 224 (9 kilometers added) kilometers from Benevento to San Giorgio with three categorized climbs. Monte Terrminio (Cat 2, 1240m) after 102.8 kilometers, Colle Molella (Cat 1, 1087m) after 132.4 and more importantly the Passo Serra (Cat 2, 584m) only 12 kilometers from the finish. Looking at the profile there isnt any flat road.The action started from the gun and the peloton split in two, but peace was called and after 25 kilometers of mad attacks it was all together again. After 65 kilometers a break of eleven riders managed to escape, they were: Carlos Betancur (AG2R-La Mondiale), Paolo Tiralongo (Astana), Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani-CSF), Amat Moinard (BMC), Kenny Elissonde (FDJ.fr), Jesus Herrada (Movistar), Ryder Hesjedal & Tom-Jelte Slagter (Garmin-Cannondale), Simon Geschke (Giant-Alpecin), Maxim Belkov (Katusha), and Steven Kruijswijk (LottoNL-Jumbo).
