EuroTrash Thursday coffee time.TOP STORY: The Young Guns Take OverOn Tuesday Cannondale-Garmin’s Davide Formolo won stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia, on the same day Hincapie’s Toms Skujins took stage 3 in California. Then on Wednesday Jan Polanc of Lampre-Merida solo’d to victory on the climb to Abetone in stage 5 in Italy. These are all young guys; Formolo is 22 and a second year pro, Skujins, 23 and riding for smaller teams since 2011. Jan Polanc turned 23 last week and is also a second year pro. Is this the new broom we have been waiting for, the new face of pro cycling, the new generation that did not come up through the bad days of EPO. When Lance Armstrong ‘won’ his first Tour de France, these lads were just 7 years old. Some will be skeptical and the use of the word ‘surprise’ has already be used in relation to the victories. But at the moment we have to believe what we see and, very importantly, enjoy they way these youngsters took their victories. All were executed in the most exciting way – solo.A new dawn?
