But it seems that not all the riders on the podium were just as welcome. Second was Francesco Reda, who? I hear you say. He hasn’t done so much this year, up until now. That’s because he had been serving a ban for evading a doping test when he rode for UCI Professional Continental Team Androni Giocattoli-Venezuela. His ban was reduced after he gave evidence to the Cycling Independent Reform Commission. Anyway, it looks like his second place was not too popular with the race organizers, or as they said: they forgot the silver medal, so Reda didn’t get his. The other problem was at the doping control. After racing for five hours, Androni’s Gianfranco Zilioli had to wait for four hours because the doctor didn’t have enough containers for the samples.
