Coffee?TOP STORY: Greg Van Avermaet to be Banned?Last Thursday the BMC team announced that: “The BMC Racing Team is aware of todays hearing by the Belgian Cycling Federation, Koninklijke Belgische Wielrijdersbond, in which Greg Van Avermaet appeared in relation to the investigation of Dr. Chris Mertens. Based on information currently available to the BMC Racing Team, Van Avermaet will not be withheld from competition.” The Belgian Federation has asked for a two year suspension, that Van Avermaet lose his results from the 2012 season and receive a fine of 262,500.The case is (allegedly) based on emails between Dr. Mertens and Van Avermaet and that Van Avermaet was treated with the cortisone Diprophos and that he had been given a prescription for a baby food called Vaminolact. Dr. Mertens is suspected of using a banned ozone treatment on some riders.Greg Van Avermaet has had an ongoing foot problem for many years and claims the Diprophos was for that problem, if he has an TUE (medical exemption certificate) then he is free to ride and has not broken any rules.
