Yesterday, at 16mph and with 70psi in them, one of a pair of brand new CtitFastSt.26x1.25 tires had the casing seperate from the wire bead resulting in a M-80 sound and one trashed tire.
Fortunately, it was the rear tire.
I removed the front tire as well when I got home and there's clear evidence the same malfunction was in the process of occuring on that one as well.
Cost/Replacement aside, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered casing failures with Performance tires.
Obviously I won't try my luck with them again and have ordered some Panaracer pasela TGs from another source.

I had some 27X1 fortes and it looks like the wire bead is surrounded with a piece of rubberized cloth which goes about 1/4" up the side of the tire. This cloth appeared to have been trimmed by a tool which cut too deep.
Anyway, whatever the reason, there were cuts in my tires above the bead which looked like they may have gone into the sidewall plies.
I replaced them before failure after about 60 miles. Coincidentally, I also used a Pasela TG.
