On Labor Day I crashed and the result was a fracture of the right superior/inferior pelvic rami, a stable pelvic fracture. I recieved two consults (orthorped surg) and one said 6 weeks and the other 12 weeks time to return to the bike. Treatment is "tincture of time" with analgesics and cruthches.
I am concerned about the loss of aerobic fitness base and will maintain my weight with caloric restriction.
I would like any words of wisdom from those unfortunates who have suffered the same or similar fate.

I went through this about 5 years ago. You should not get back on the bike until an x-ray confirms that the fracture has healed. That said, it is the soft tissue damage that takes the most time to heal and that process is to some extent age dependent. I found that deep massage, starting 5 days after the injury, helped greatly in recovery. I was back on the bike in 9 weeks and that first ride was hell. Expect to loose both fitness and significant power on the side that was injured. Don't push yourself. Listen to your body and recover. Good luck. I know the pain you're going through. That's why God, in Her infinite Wisdom, made opiates.
