I have an easy question. I'm looking for a pair of junk pedals (a pair of shimano spd-sl to be specific) for an junker bike I still like to cruise around on. Looking on Ebay, I see lots of the old, Shimano/Look pedals. Will the new yellow/red Shimano cleats work on those old pedals. Are the new Shimano cleats, and the older look cleats compatible? I've called a few bike shops, some say yes... some say no... If anyone has some insight on this, please share. Aloha!

i think most of the answers are no. those red and yellow shimano cleats (the ones that are a similar shape to the look cleats) are only suited to the spd-sl pedals, not the previous spd-r or whatever else shimano has made. nor are they compatible with look pedals.
the shape of the spd-sl (new shimano pedals) and the spd-r and plain old spd pedals are fairly different
