Just don't over-sand when roughing up for the cement, and be careful not to overinflate the tube before the tire is fully mounted. The latex stretches (lots) more than the patch will. -
When I patch tubies--all my tubies have latex tubes--I use Velox cement and patches cut from an old latex tube. Alternatively, you could get some latex cement to use.
